He was sitting in the soft June sun.
The old dog at his feet.
He said, "here me boy, get hold of them tweezers in the draw in there for me...bloody splinters."

He was silent.
I continued with the tweezers.
Then old Amos said, " I remember my mother taking ironbark splinters outa me when I was a boy."
And old Amos didn't say another word; and we sat in the soft sunshine and looked at the hills...
