old worlds

old lifetimes

spring zing...
PASSING THOUGHT: There's a beautiful zing in this spring morning. Global doom seems remote+procrastination-my pandemic specialty-is definitely high on the temptation list. Too anxious to emerge from home this Melbourne Cup day, so I'll celebrate with 'Sarum' on my sunny verandah.

'Sarum' + Black Death...
➡️'Sarum'...Hitting raw nerves...
— Gemma Wiseman (@AuraGem) October 10, 2020
P.820-'It is often supposed-quite erroneously-that the Black Death of 1348 was an isolated event which was not repeated till the great plague of 1665...almost as terrible as the original, was the second visitation of 1361'...Many outbreaks btw...

back to Sarum...
Page 761 continues...'he rebuilt the kitchen with a stone vaulted ceiling and two huge fires set in the walls. But though some of the richer landowners were building fine stone halls on the ground level of their houses, he stuck conservatively to the old Norman hall on the upper floor with its narrow windows.'It did for my grandfather,' he stated with finality.'➡️'Sarum'-Gilbert regretted he had not fought at Crecy. The profits would have been used at Avonsford. For his mind seldom left the manor now. He made some modest improvements: he installed a bathroom with a large wooden tub which the maidservant filled with hot water once a week

a 'Sarum' day...
Today's spotlight is on 'Sarum'...too long neglected...(only a few days, but it seems longer)....

Page 492 - 'The castle towered over the place where the five rivers met. It was far higher, and more terrible, than any building Sarum had seen before...'

'Sarum' - Page 462...
It's been a great day with 'Sarum'. Page 462 but still not halfway... Lived the life of scattered Anglo-Saxons and now waiting for some Vikings... What a grand saga...living history...through the eyes of very real characters... pic.twitter.com/k3dGZCP3zH

Sunday temptations...
PASSING THOUGHT: So much to do today...But cold grey morning light outside with a hint of cold rain seems to be suggesting that I just snuggle into a lounge chair and read more of 'Sarum'... I just could be tempted... pic.twitter.com/DwM2UEhsqp

more 'Sarum'...
More Edward Rutherfurd's 'Sarum' today. I'm still wandering Old Sarum chapters. I've taken the 1st Journey to Sarum, 'when the world was a colder and darker place', (the last Ice Age was retreating), passed The Barrow 3,500 years later + now venturing through 2,000B.C. 'Sarum' begins...
Beginning a little 'Sarum'- Edward Rutherford for daily sanity...Sarum is a name that describes the area of Salisbury. Imaginative families are set amongst people and events that did exist. pic.twitter.com/NrH5UQJCHF— Gemma Wiseman (@AuraGem) July 24, 2020
A beautiful couple of hours in winter sun on the verandah reading this delightful book today...

weekend...after a week of RM prep...
Your time spent sounds so much better than mine...I've been cleaning out the cat litter box and cleaning the driveway and carport of yet more leaves...Thought it would all take about 20 min...Here it is after 10am and began before 9:00am... At least a couple of weekend tasks done— Gemma Wiseman (@AuraGem) July 18, 2020

+ I feel closer and closer to appreciating the little things around me
+ my imagination is going wild...
'dragonflies' indeed...
Maybe tomorrow I morning walk...Today is all about domestic organisation
for the first week of remote learning next week...
+ some reading (beginning Sarum - Edward Rutherfurd - 1344 pages) for relief...maybe escape...
(the latter is my 'project' to balance projected remote learning stresses)
Tomorrow polish off strands of work for remote learning too...
Simply could not face doing any more yesterday...Felt gutted...
