in this life...

A poetic response to 'Secret Scribbled Notebooks' (2004) - Joanne Horniman

in this life
I choose to be a tree
ever-changing
a deciduous tree
sleeping winter slumbers
unfolding new leaves
in the springtime

those who love me
appreciate
all that I am#micropoetry pic.twitter.com/uMgN92P0nv

writing in the dark...

'Writing in the dark again. It makes me feel free, not being able to see what I'm writing. And, as usual, I am invisible in this tree. My magic cloak.'

kissing a book...

'I found that kissing a book was like hugging a tree. It made me feel better.'

houses without people...

'Houses without people in them have a particular feel. It is as though you have caught them in the act of being entirely themselves...
Only gradually will they begin to warm to you again.'

blank page and trees...

'Pages are such daunting things. Unwritten on, they are so pure, so white, so unsullied, like freshly fallen snow.
So silent.
Who would dare to put footprints there?'

'This tree is vast, like a cathedral or an ocean liner. When I was little I had parts of it all mapped out into kitchen and bedrooms and living room, all connected by the passageways of broad branches.'

Oscar Wilde and a flower...

'I wonder what kind of flower Oscar Wilde would have been? A lily, probably, one of those large, white funereal lilies with an odour of damp melancholy about it.'

I would like to be a tree...

'Secret Scribbled Notebooks' - Joanne Horniman - 'I would really like to be a tree. Not forever, just for a little while. A mango perhaps, with lots of sheltering leaves and luscious fruits.'
(I'm waiting for my car to be serviced. Reading and selecting quotes.)
