I've had an ongoing fascination with the fate of this ex-German town in west Africa...Its decline began in the early 1930's...
Its fate today is so far from the bustling era of diamond mine fever, 100 years ago...

Love some of the stories attached to the town.
Pets were difficult to keep in the conditions, but one family had a pet ostrich that terrorised the townspeople. It was only partly able to redeem itself at Christmas by pulling a sled containing Father Christmas over the sand.
